Keep hope alive.
In Chinese class my teacher went around the room asking all the women to say in Chinese whether they liked handsome men. When we'd finished, she shook her head at those of us who'd said yes, and declared emphatically, "Handsome men are bad. It's better that your husband be bald or fat."
